Study of background in CeCl3 crystal and new limits on 0νββ decay in 136Ce and 138Ce isotopes
A CeCl3 crystal was measured with HP Ge detector in the low-background Ge facility of Gran Sasso (LNGS) in order to study its radioactive contaminants and to preliminary investigate double beta decay processes in 136Ce and 138Ce isotopes.
In the figure below the spectrum obtained in 1279.9 h of measurement
is reported. All the peaks have been identified and, comparing the measurement
with the background spectrum of the Ge detector, the residual radioactive contaminations
of the crystal have been derived.
In the Table here the radioactive contamination of the CeCl3 crystal measured with the HP Ge spectrometry is summarized. The limits are given at 90% C.L.
