Recent DAMA/NaI results on solar axions

The axion was postulated by Peccei-Quinn to explain the absence of CP violation in strong interaction.

2001 - An exposure of 53437 kg x d has been used to search for axion from the Sun by exploiting the Primakoff effect in NaI(Tl) crystals. No evidence has been found.


  • Achieved limit:
    gaγγ < 1.7 x 10-9 GeV-1 (90% C.L.)

  • Region ma > 0.03 eV (not accessible by other direct methods) explored and KSVZ axions with ma > 4.6 eV excluded at 90% C.L..
