Results on Dark Matter by using CaF2(Eu) detectors
We have considered the possibility to use fluoride scintillating
compounds as target-detectors for particle Dark Matter because of the large cross
section on 19F (spin 1/2) for axially coupled candidates as emphasized e.g.
by Ellis and Flores in PLB263 (1991) 259. In particular, because of its relatively large
light output (about 60% of NaI(Tl)), we have chosen the CaF2(Eu)
We obtained in the past - at Gran Sasso - the first experimental result with our detector by Quartz & Silice; afterwards we have developed with Bicron company a devoted R&D to realize (as much as possible) radiopure CaF2(Eu) detectors.
